Moms & Travel & Stuff
With Mother's Day just around the corner,
I'm excited to share some gift ideas that will make your
mom feel extra special. And for those of you who are itchingto travel, I've got some tips and tricks to help you as you prepare for your next adventure. So sit back, relax, and let's dive into this week's newsletter!
My Favorite Bag When I Want To Get AWAY
I used to carry a big, leather tote as my “personal item” on planes, but that didn’t always work out very well
So, I searched for a better solution: something simple with clean lines and the ability to slide over the collapsible handle of my roller suitcase. The AWAY brand Medium Size Everywhere Bag fits the bill perfectly. It's durable and stylish with water-resistant nylon and leather trim. The extended zipper clamshell opening allows easy access to the main compartment, while the detachable shoulder strap and top handles make it comfortable to carry. The interior organization system keeps travel essentials organized, and the exterior padded laptop pocket fits my MacBook or iPad and power cables". It's not the cheapest bag, but its quality and style make it worth the investment. Click AWAY
Discover New Ways to Film Your Stuff
One thing that has become quickly evident is I need some better video skills.
I came across this Learn Online Video Channel last week and I've really become fascinated with some of the techniques Steve has offered. In the coming weeks I'mhoping to start producing much more video content so I'm excited to incorporate some of these suggestions. There's a 10 part series on shooting with your iPhone that might up your game before your next trip. Click HERE to start the first video. I can't wait to see what you film.
Making Small Collections of Stuff.
As we get older and hopefully wiser
we start to understand that the real value in life are our experiences rather than things. However, we still like our things, so let’s talk about that. I do like to have a physical token that evokes a memory or a story about a place I’ve been or a thing I’ve done. The last few years, that has manifested itself in Christmas ornaments and little blue bowls. The first blue bowl was from Mexico and had been lovingly restored, which started this obsession with these small bowls. We don’t set them away somewhere, butrather, we use them on the table or buffet for dips, spreads, olive oils, olives, etc. Often when we usethem, we love to tell guests where they came from and what they meant to us when we picked them up.These types of “collectibles” are the souvenirs I want to encourage you to bring back from your journeys. Capture a memory or experience in some small article and bring it home. I encourage you to keep it small for packing purposes. The utility of the item and its story can be a little joy that you get to share over and overagain with family and friends.
Is Your Mom A Life-Long Learner?
Giving Mom Some Good Stuff!
If so, I want to suggest giving your mom the truly unique gift of an annual Skillshare Subscription. For a flat $168 annual fee Skillshare offers unlimited courses ranging from creative writing, cooking, photography, design and even business development and online marketing. I’ve been an avid user for years and I take courses all of the time. Most recently to build my new website. Your mom can learn at her own pace and on her schedule. And rather than searching video after video on YouTube.
Skillshare offers their courses broken down into smaller segments that are easier to get through. Take a look HERE to learn a little more about Skillshare if you aren’t familiar with it.
Stuff Mom’s Not Gonna Buy For Herself
That’s Why She Had You
I don’t think I would have spent so much on a self-warming coffee cup for myself. Fortunately, I have a very kind friend who gave me an Ember Mug as a gift. And....now I have to say that when my current one breaks, I will spend this much money on myself for a new Ember. This will be a gift that your mom (or anyone really) will love and will immediately wonder how they lived without it. This little beauty will hold your coffee at a constant temperature (that you select via an app) and keep it there until the battery runs out.
